About the release
The composition Cinq croquis, or Five Sketches, by Ivan Josip Skender was composed in 2015 at the request of the composer’s regular collaborators, the sisters Zita and Nadia Varga, cellists and pianists, and was written for clarinet, cello and piano. The colourful work, which evokes bygone times with its picturesque atmosphere, wide colour spectrum and airy texture, has since been performed numerous times by various ensembles, including a version for clarinet, viola and piano. The composition consists of five movements of contrasting characters and varying duration, which musicians can perform in random order – in the words of the composer: “depending on the mood they want to achieve, or rather – as they like it.”
