Mladen Tarbuk: Four Epigrams about Time, for Ensemble
About the release
In his composition Four Epigrams about Time, for piccolo/flute/alto flute/bass flute, clarinet/bass clarinet, vibraphone/cajón, piano, violin and cello, created in 2019, Mladen Tarbuk continues to confront the flow of time in music, namely the temporality of music, which he began in 1990 in the song cycle Medida del tiempo, and then continued in a series of compositions. According to the composer, in order to examine the experience of the arrow of time, for his Four Epigrams about Time, he chose semi-series in which all basic intervals are used, from a minor second to a perfect fourth, without repeating intervals, thus avoiding the melodic appearance of tritone intervals, while the remaining intervals are derived from the basic ones. The composition was premiered by the Mimitabu Ensemble and conductor Rei Munakata at the Music Panel in Opatija on November 8, 2019.
