Silvio Foretić: Sextet for Three Trumpets, Horn, Trombone and Tuba
About the release
Commissioned by the Music Biennale Zagreb 2019, Sextet for Three Trumpets, Horn, Trombone and Tuba was premiered by the ensemble “Ad Gloriam Brass” at the 30th edition of the festival, in Lauba, on 13 April 2019. The essence of Foretić’s approach to composing and the art of music as a whole is summed up in a – characteristic of him – commentary in the catalogue of the 30th MBZ: “The composition by Silvio Foretić was commissioned by the 30th MBZ, and the composer believes that a commentary is unnecessary and impossible with his new piece.”
The absence of commentary speaks in favor of the awareness of the self-sufficiency of the musical content, putting to the fore the composer’s desire for his distinctive work to speak for itself – with ingenious musical solutions, virtuoso performance, but also surprises, such as pauses and instructions to the musicians instead of notes, as impressive stage elements.
The three-movement composition performed by the ensemble “Ad Gloriam Brass” was recorded on the author’s album from the Croatian Contemporary Composers edition (HDS – Cantus, 2020).
