Dani Bošnjak: Tales from the Inner World
About the release
Tales from the Inner World are stories that open up their own distinctive horizons, stories of different musics. The four compositions performed by Dani Bošnjak himself, together with the final one in the sequence, created through the joint playing of three musicians, form the perfect number 7: a number intrinsically linked to the Japanese garden, as one of the pieces is directly titled, and as Bošnjak’s carefully conceived trail as a whole may also be viewed. The garden exists in space, while the stories remain inward; this apparent oxymoron is united by the need to reveal the inner world through the metaphor of music, through the ordered world of flora, through a body of recordings shaped by a year of isolation and re-examined values.
In 2021, Dani Bošnjak rounded off a cycle of concerts significantly titled Music Can Change the World, in which he brought together diverse music and musicians, with live online broadcasts. From the preserved music of around fifty concerts, he selected the performance with the award-winning duo, brothers Alen and Nenad Sinkauz, who instinctively sensed the pulse through which the inner story is revealed to everyone, yet remains perhaps a secret dream, here added in the title Beli – Bela’s Dream. The complete and immediate improvisation at the end of the album forms the opposite pole to the starting point, namely the first story which, in Srđan Dedić’s perfectly structured composition, opens a view onto the unique artistic path of Dani Bošnjak’s interpretation. (excerpt from a commentary by Iva Lovrec Štefanović)
This CD is not flute-centred in the classical sense – the flute is the medium through which I express myself by painting nature. In the Japanese context, it is breath; in the African context, rhythm, that is, the percussive elements of flute playing. Each composer has their own story, but the connecting thread throughout is peace – inner peace and the balance of nature. Even in the wild Solomonarul, harmony and peace are ultimately found. — Dani Bošnjak, on the concept of the CD
