Dalibor Bukvić: Prophéties
About the release
This piano piece was composed and premiered in 1991 in Sarajevo by the composer himself. A year later, still a college student, Bukvić performed it at the Music Tribune in Opatija. Structurally conceived as a virtuoso theme with variations, with a mysterious, darkened tone and contrasting tempos, it was also performed in Zagreb, Darmstadt, Paris, Portugal, Poland and Mexico; and this composition, along with Ostinato and Rondo for string orchestra, has earned Bukvić the Rector’s Award of the University of Zagreb (1992). Its significance in the trajectory of Bukvić’s artistic development – as well as within his broader compositional oeuvre – is underscored by its inclusion on his first CD in the series Croatian Contemporary Composers (Cantus, 2009), aptly titled “Prophecies”.
