Frano Đurović: Quartet for the End of Working Time, for Saxophone Quartet
About the release
The Quartet for the End of Working Time is so titled because it was created in a short time frame, the composer noted. The composition brings a seemingly traditional three-movement formal disposition, the individual movements of which reflect individuality in terms of character, treatment of sound material, and approach to thematic fragments that spring from the character formation at times of almost minimalist, varied patterns. The work is dedicated to the Papandopulo Quartet, which premiered the first movement on 7 October 2009 at the Days of New Music in Split, while they presented the first integral performance in the year the composition was completed, on 5 November 2010, at the 47th Music Panel in Opatija. Their interpretation was also recorded on the discographic release, Đurović’s first album as an author (Cantus, 2012). This is the sixth in a series of works from the author’s opus, published in Cantus’s sheet music edition Ars Croatica.
