Viktorija Čop: Meditation and Gambolero for guitar quartet
About the release
Meditation and Gambolero for guitar quartet is a two-part compositional dedication to the guitar and a reflection of the two faces of this instrument, presented in two characteristically contrasting movements. The seemingly melodically and formally classical and harmonious expression brings “the harmonies of aleatoric chapters immersed in a ‘new’, expanded tonality that modifies into free atonality”, as the author explained. The composition was commissioned by the Osor Music Evenings festival, where it was premiered on August 2, 2016, by members of the Croatian Guitar Quartet – Zoran Dukić, Petrit Çeku, Maroje Brčić, and Tvrtko Sarić. A year later, at another festival of national importance, the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, for a concert at which this composition was also performed, the Quartet musicians were awarded the Orlando festival award. A recording of the composition is available on their album Bagatelles for home use (Cantus, 2023).
