In the world of musical affinities, the flute and the harp are probably one of the most popular pairings, Diana notes — two instruments so different in their expressive possibilities that their very contrast is the secret of their complementarity. The flute is agile and alive, virtuosic, at times gentle and at times forceful, lyrical and singing in long phrases that seem to stretch breath into infinity, yet playful, sharp, and elusive in fast staccato passages. The harp, by contrast, has a harmonic nature: its shimmering arpeggios and broken chords sketch delicate, intangible contours, while its glissandi provide brilliance and sparkle, like instantly recognisable sonic signatures, Diana explains.
And it is precisely in this fusion that the two instruments create a unique and beautiful palette of colours — much like those brought together on the album I colori: playful colours of sound and sounding playfulness of colour.
