Srećko Bradić: Sorrow, for string orchestra
About the release
The composition Sorrow for string orchestra was inspired by the Van Gogh drawing of the same name and a quote by the French writer Jules Michelet: “How is it possible that there is a single, abandoned woman in the world?” Bradić composed the piece at the request of the Osor Music Evenings festival, where it was premiered on August 2, 2020, by the Acoustic Project Strings ensemble. For this composition, Bradić received the Boris Papandopulo Award of the Croatian Composers’ Association that same year, which is awarded for original work in classical music. The explanation of the Award on that occasion emphasized that “the sonic unity of the string corps is highlighted by logical and masterful orchestration and, like the form of the work itself, leaves an impression of clarity that benefits interpreters and listeners.”
