About the release
Before us is Srećko Bradić’s first original album, which certainly comes deservedly, and although seemingly quite late in his career, on the eve of his 60th birthday – in fact, it may appear at just the right moment, to unify and present two monumental compositions from his oeuvre, both created on Latin texts of the rites and prayers of the Catholic Church – Requiem for soloists, choir and orchestra (2015) and Stabat Mater, for soprano, choir and strings (2021).
These are works of exceptional intensity that certainly belong to the peaks of his oeuvre. If we add to these two compositions the Miserere for choir from 2016, recently released on the audio recording of Listening to the HRT Choir (Cantus/HRT, 2022), we have an almost complete result of Bradić’s artistic efforts in the last decade, a very specific and focused part of his oeuvre that deserves to be presented in this comprehensive manner, and which is marked by a turn towards compositions that bear titles of sacral provenance, but which Bradić without exception makes particular and his own. Requiem and Miserere were created as a result of the collaboration between the HRT ensembles and Srećko Bradić as their resident composer in the 2015/2016 season, while Stabat Mater was commissioned by the Zagreb Soloists, but premiered again in collaboration with the HRT Choir.
