Cantus Magazine Archive
Cantus magazine was the official publication of the Croatian Composers’ Society. Its predecessor were the Society’s bulletins, which served to inform members and were published as needed. However, as early as the late 1940s, Muzičke novine appeared, followed in 1950 by Muzička revija, of which the Society was a co-publisher. From 1979 to 1993, the HDS bulletin was published regularly, and from that year onwards it began to appear in a more technologically advanced format and under a new name: Cantus. Under the editorship of Jagoda Martinčević, the magazine developed into a serious and relevant periodical that regularly reported on events related to Croatian music.
In 1998, the editorial leadership was taken over by Erika Krpan, whose expertise, knowledge, and creative energy—combined with the Society’s growing financial resources—ushered Cantus into its golden age. The magazine expanded both in the number of pages and texts, as well as in the quality and production technology, and alongside reporting and commenting on musical events, it published a wide range of valuable articles, features, columns, and other contributions that enriched the musical and musicological scene.
The magazine was published until 2021, when, in continuing the mission of informing the public about Croatian music, it was succeeded by a new medium: the online portal glazba.hr.
