Krunoslav Babić and Srebrenka Poljak: Monologue
Works by Croatian Composers
About the release
Krunoslav Babić, tuba
Srebrenka Poljak
The first sound recording for tuba in Croatia.
This recording vividly demonstrates how the tuba—with its remarkable palette of tonal colours, unexpected expressive possibilities, and captivating sonorities drawn from the deepest registers of the musical spectrum (matched among classical instruments only by the organ and the double bass)—can serve as a powerful source of inspiration for composers. The album features one of Croatia’s leading tubists, Krunoslav Babić, whose artistry, musicianship, and virtuosic command of the instrument inspired several composers to create the works presented here.
Written specifically at Babić’s request and dedicated to him, these compositions have enriched the repertoire of Croatian classical music with a number of artistically significant, distinctive, and compelling works.
The musical commentaries in the accompanying programme booklet were edited by Davor Merkaš.
Trilingual edition: Croatian / English / German.
