Vjekoslav Nježić: Jacob’s Dream, for saxophone quartet and electronics
About the release
Inspired by a scene from the Book of Genesis, Jacob’s Dream, for saxophone quartet and electronics, is one of the works in which Nježić expresses his fascination with observing time as a state, as opposed to its fluidity. Experiencing listening as a sensation intertwined with leaps in the listener’s consciousness, and knowing that electronic music today can be limited by imagination only, Nježić incorporates electronics as another layer of musical thought that follows ideas from diverse origins, confirming the composer’s excellent compositional foundations in sound and form. The composition was commissioned by the 23rd Music Biennale Zagreb. It was premiered by the Zagreb Saxophone Quartet on April 18, 2005, at the Mimara Museum, after which they have had many more repeated performances in Croatia and abroad.
This sheet music edition continues the series of three of Nježić’s compositions (for solo, duo, and orchestra with tape) that are already available in the Ars Croatica edition.
