Dešpalj, Šime: Moba - Prelude, Choral and Fugue for Orchestra

A versatile musician and author, one of the founders of the music life of Zadar in the second half of last century, Šime Dešpalj was born in 1897 in Arbanasi near Zadar. He acquired musical education in Zadar under F. Lederer, J. Chládek and K. Mohr, after which he attained success after success in Dalmatia as choirmaster, conductor of brass music and as teacher and promoter of chamber string ensembles. From 1945, in the war-devastated Zadar, he continued with intensive musical activity conducting orchestras and choirs and teaching at the music and teaching schools as well as secondary comprehensive school. He was a skilful pedagogue and animator, transferring his love toward music to his children, Pavle, Maja and Valter, who would become distinguished Croatian musicians. ...
