Uhlik, Tomislav: Études-Variations on a Well-Known Theme, for piano

Composer Tomislav Uhlik has written six interesting études for young pianists inspired by the well-known theme, the nursery rhyme Frère Jacques, which is usually sung in canon, for the international competition Young Virtuosos - Études and Scales. Having based his works on the form of theme with variations, his études have indeed struck a responsive chord with many pianists, the young ones as well, who we hope would become professional musicians in the future and for whom the composer wrote these études - variations. A distinctive feature of this collection arises from the fact that the author composed two études for the fifth category, so that the young musicians of that age can choose the piece more suited to their technical skills and artistic aptitudes. All the études begin with the ‘wellknown theme’ calmly, moderately, corresponding with the character of the popular nursery rhyme.
