Polychromatic Études by Krešimir Seletković are mandatory compositions at the 21st international violin competition Young Virtuosos. The first étude will be a challenge to young minds who are yet at the beginning of their violin journey. The whole étude is performed in double stops as a combination of a fingered and an open string. It may seem simple, but the youngest virtuosos in the competition shall sharpen their hearing for intervals starting from prime to tritone to achieve clean sound because the open string – as much as it makes the work easier – ruthlessly indicates even the smallest intonation impurity. At the same time, the right hand deals with accents appearing in different combinations. In the end of the etude, diligent violinist are confronted with a pizzicato chord consisting only of open strings. ...
